Raw material buyer

Under the supervision of the Vice-President of Operations / Finance, the incumbent is responsible for purchasing raw steel, special equipment and subcontracting contracts for the manufacturing needs of Beauce Atlas. The raw material buyer defines and implements the company’s purchasing policy in conjunction with general management. He guarantee the achievement of the qualitative, quantitative and organizational objectives in terms of steel supply management. The incumbent is responsible of finding new suppliers and subcontractors based on the needs of the organization and its active markets. He is always looking for ways to reduce costs while respecting deadlines and quality standards.

Qualifications required

  • A bachelor’s degree or college diploma in business management, commerce or economics
  • 10 years experience in purchasing
  • The professional designation in supply chain management (P.G.C.A.) is considered an asset
  • construction industry knowledge / steel industry knowledge is considered an asset
  • Advanced spoken and written English
  • Office suite

Specific functions

  • Ensure compliance and optimization of the steel purchasing policy including all the means as well as the objectives to be achieved
  • Collect and analyze the steel supply needs for each Beauce Atlas manufacturing project
  • In collaboration with the project management department, carry out the planning of the project prerequisites
  • Participate in the development of specifications for products or substitute materials
  • Proceed to the call for tenders process, analyze the bids received, negotiate and set up supplier agreements in accordance with: project schedules, production schedules and the required quality (price, terms and conditions of agreements for raw steel and subcontracting)
  • Negotiate directly with the company’s key service providers and suppliers, particularly in the establishment of framework agreements
  • Ensure, at a scheduled or unscheduled pace, the evaluation and renegotiations of framework contracts based on supplier performance, market developments and business needs
  • Follow up / follow-up on orders and ensure compliance with contractual commitments
  • Ensure an economic watch on the evolution of the market and the projects undertaken by the competitors in terms of raw material purchasing strategy
  • Set up performance monitoring indicators, both quantitative and qualitative, of subcontractors
  • Examine and deal with complaints against suppliers.
